Mylene Uy

Mylene Uy is a Professor at the Chemistry Department of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), Philippines. She is the Program Leader of the Natural Products and Drug Development Research Group of the Premier Research Institute of Science and Mathematics (PRISM) of MSU-IIT and presently its Director.
As Director of PRISM, she has established and leads its core program, the Discovery, Development and Delivery of Natural Products (D3NP). She obtained her Doctor of Science degree (Biological Sciences -Bioorganic Chemistry) from Hirosohima University, Japan in 2005 as a Monbukagakusho Scholar, her MS Chemistry Degree at MSU-IIT as a Department of Science and Technology – Engineering and Science Education Program (DOST-ESEP) Scholar and B. S. Chemistry Degree at MSU-IIT graduating Magna Cumlaude and the Institute Valedictorian.
She has authored / co-authored more than 50 international papers and has presented in a number of international conferences and symposia. She has mentored more than eighty undergraduate and graduate students as well as junior researchers in the field of Natural Products Chemistry.
She has been involved in a number of research projects funded internally by MSU-IIT and by government agencies. She has two Philippine patent applications in the field of natural products.
She is the 2021 Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Best Mentor in Health Research Awardee for Mindanao Cluster - Graduate Category, DOST-PCHRD 2021, the 2016 Novartis Next Generation Scientist from the Philippines and the 2015 National Research Council of the Philippines’ Achievement Awardee in the Field of Chemical Sciences.
Currently, she is implementing three research programs being funded by the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, the Philippine Institute for Traditional and Alternative Health Care and MSU-IIT.
